Transitional-Living Programs

Safe Space operates two 12-bed Transitional-Living Facilities to support at-risk, homeless and runaway youth. Both facilities provide residents with the foundation for long-term independence and stability by building a combination of physical, mental, educational and life skills.

Safe Haven houses homeless youth, ages 16 to 21, many of whom identify as LGBTQ. Increasing economic self-sufficiency for our young people is a major goal.  All residents are expected to work or enroll in school in order to remain in the program -- and last year all achieved this within a 3-month period.

Safe Home, the first program of its kind in New York State, is a transitional residence with comprehensive supportive services for HIV+ homeless youth. The program focuses on four main treatment areas: physical health, mental health, substance abuse and vocational and/or educational skills. The ultimate goal of Safe Home is to help residents return to their communities of choice as responsible, economically self-sufficient, healthy young adults. In on recent year, four of residents left Safe Home to enroll in four-year residential colleges.
