REACH FOR THE STARS!
Broadway Lights Up Jamaica 2102 re-teams Safe Space with the award-winning arts organization, Broadway in South Africa, to celebrate the potential and possibilities for youth in Southeast Queens. This free community event will be held Monday, May 7th in partnership with the landmark Jamaica Performing Arts Center.
In 2010, Safe Space produced the inaugural Broadway Lights Up Jamaica to rave reviews. The event brought together performers from such Broadway hits as RENT, Avenue Q, Mama Mia! and The Lion King to teach -- and then join -- children from our programs to present this joyful musical performance. (Tickets are free to community residents based on a first come, first served basis.)
This first event received coverage in media outlets all over Queens, as well as the New York Post and NY1, and generated enormous goodwill in our community. (See the links below for examples.)
