Youths and Staffers Help Haitian Relief Effort

An enthusiastic group 17 youths and five staffers from the Safe Haven, Safe Home and JDIC programs volunteered at the Concern for Haiti charity run in Manhattan's Central Park on April 10, 2010. Consisting of roughly 25 percent of all volunteers, they greeted participants entering the park before the race and then cheered them on during the four-mile trek. They also served as "entrance marshalls" to ensure safety by keeping runners in their lanes. The event, which was organized by the humanitarian organization ConcernUSA, raised more than $134,000 that will fund relief work related to the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. It was also one of the first volunteer projects in which members of various Safe Space youth programs worked together.
