Far Rockaway youth wash cars, raise funds

There was hard work for a great cause on June 12, when about 15 participants from the Far Rockaway Drop-In Center washed cars to raise money for a local hospital. Working in the parking lot behind the Central Avenue Drop-In Center, the volunteers sponged down about 25 vehicles -- everything from SUVs to compact cars. They raised roughly $200 to support a new pediatric ward at St. John's Episcopal Hospital. The three-hour event was part of a community engagement component set forth in a grant from New Yorkers for Children.
